Ex-sultan Dasuki, father of former NSA, dies at 92

Former sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki, died at the age of 92 on Monday night at the Turkish hospital in Abuja, TheCable has learnt.

The 18th sultan, who was disposed by former head of state, Sani Abacha, in 1996, was the father of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser who is currently in detention and undergoing trial.

Dasuki, born on December 31, 1923, had been battling ailments related to old age.

He succeeded Abubakar Siddique as the sultan on December 6, 1988 as the military government of Ibrahim Babangida, a general, appointed him in controversial circumstances.

He was removed in 1996 by Abacha also in controversial circumstances.

Dasuki was banished from Sokoto after his dethronement and lived in Kaduna in the last days of his life.

His successor, Muhammadu Maccido, died in an air crash in 2006.

Dasuki will be buried on Tuesday in Sokoto.
