Ganduje sacks aide for criticising Buhari

Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano governor, has sacked Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, his spokesman, for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a statement on Saturday, Muhammad Garba, state commissioner for information, said the dismissal is because of Tanko-Yakasai’s “continued unguarded comments”.

Garba said Tanko-Yakasai’s comments are contrary to the position of the All Progressives Congress-led government which he works for.

The commissioner said the aide failed to differentiate between personal opinion and official stand on matters of public concern, adding that he could not be allowed to continue to serve in a government he does not believe in.

On Friday, Tanko-Yakasai expressed dismay at the news of the abduction of 317 schoolgirls from a secondary school in Jangebe, Zamfara state.

“Clearly, we as [the] APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number 1 duty we were elected to do which is to secure lives & properties. Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign,” he had tweeted.

The whereabouts of Tanko-Yakasai is unknown.

An official of the Kano state government said he is in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Confirming the arrest, Tanko Yakasai, Salihu’s father, said his son was on his way to a barber shop when he was arrested.

  1. The presidency is now forcing people to appreciate Buhari’s government the world is watching the Muslim regime of northern Nigeria.

  2. If he was relieved of his appointment only, no problem, but why the arrest, or is there no freedom of speech anymore? Besides, his statement is not a lie but reflect the true situation on ground. We should always stand for the truth, even if the truth will not be in our favour. Buhari APC led administration is nothing but a fiasco

  3. Nigeria is a sorry nation, that a passionate Nigeria spoke an obvious truth against the spate of kidnapping in the northern Nigeria, due to the insecurity challenges in the country, and he was relieved of his job. Reasons been that his statement is not in tandem with the stance of APC government. “What a pity” it is no longer Nigeria first, it’s now all about APC. Our dear nation is in serious mess.
