Christopher Dega, senior special assistant to Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue, on security matters, has been killed by gunmen.
Dega, a retired assistant inspector-general of police, was killed on Tuesday in Jos, Plateau state.
Terver Akase, spokesperson to the governor, confirmed the incident to TheCable.
It is not clear yet what led to his killing as the police command in Plateau is yet to respond to a message seeking details around the incident.

In March, Ortom accused herdsmen of attempting to kill him.
Gunmen had opened fire on the governor’s convoy at Tyo Mu along Makurdi-Gboko road while he was on a visit to his farm.
The governor said the armed men, numbering about 15, trailed his convoy to the river bank where he was on foot with his security details.

The governor added that troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, the police, and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) mobilised to the forest between Tyo Mu and Abinse where the gunmen are thought to be camped.
