Niger governor: Kagara students have not been released

Abubakar Bello, governor of Niger state, says the Kagara students have not been released but the state is doing its best to ensure the students are released within “the next few days or hours”.

Rumour was rife on Friday that the students have been released.

Bello also said he will not resign over the abduction of 27 students of Government Science College (GSC) Kagara.

The governor told TheCable on Friday that “I am not considering resigning anything”, adding that “this is the first time students are being kidnapped in this state”.

The students were abducted alongside 14 others when armed bandits attacked their school on Wednesday morning.

Some Nigerians said the incident, which has been part of a trend of attacks on schools in the northern part of the country, is an indictment on the state government.

But responding to a question by TheCable when he addressed journalists at the state government house, Bello said he is not contemplating resigning over the issue.
