Suleiman Abba, the inspector general of police, has redeployed commissioners of police across the federation.
This is coming less than six weeks to the rescheduled general election.
According to a statement issued by Emmanuel Ojukwu, police spokesman, on Tuesday, the exercise is in line with the determination and drive of the IGP to enhance the administrative and operational effectiveness of the Nigeria police force.
Ojukwu also stated that the postings were in line with efforts to re-position the force, filling vacancies created and in view of officers proceeding on course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Jos, as well as posting of returning senior officers from NIPSS.

In September, 2014, the IGP had redeployed 32 commissioners of police, citing a similar reason.
In January, he redeployed about 28 assistant inspectors-general of police, including controversial police officer Joseph Mbu.
