INEC card reader rejects Wada

Idris Wada, governor of Kogi state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the ongoing governorship election, has stormed out of his polling unit in annoyance after the voter card reader of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to accredit him.

At polling unit 001 Odu in Dekina local government area, Wada presented himself for accreditation around 12 noon, but the card reader did not accept his fingerprints.

Wada filled the incident form thereafter and left in visible anger.

Earlier on Friday, Wada had alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was already rigging the governorship election, using security agents and compromised INEC officials.

And on Saturday, he alleged that his local government area was on “lockdown”.

“There is security lock down in Dekina local government since 5am by soldiers,” his spokesman, through Phrank Shaibu, said.

“Voters can’t go out neither can our party agents move. There are also cases of missing result sheets as identified by few of our agents that could find their way to INEC office in Dekina.

“The polling unit where the result sheets are missing is Ajetachi opposite Abochi Aji house and the polling unit of the DG of Audu’s campaign.”

But TheCable observed that at least at three polling units in Dekina, there was no heavy presence of security agents.

When the governor’s wife could not find her name in the voter register, she said: “This is an attempt to manipulate this election.”‬

‪Also, the governor said: “This is my polling unit.‬ How can all the card readers be failing? Yet you have just one incident form. It’s unacceptable. The whole world is watching this election.”
