Aguero collapses as Nigeria thrash ‘Messi-less’ Argentina

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have defeated Argentina 4-2 in an international friendly match played on Tuesday.

Sergio Aguero and Ever Banega had put Argentina two goals up before the Super Eagles staged a remarkable comeback.

Alex Iwobi scored a brace while Kelechi Iheanacho and Brian Idowu scored one apiece to hand Nigeria the bragging rights.

The Super Eagles were under intense pressure from the Argentines in the first forty-five minutes but came back to life in the second half.

Banega opened the scoring via a free-kick for Argentina in the 28th minute while Aguero doubled his side’s lead through a counter-attack in the 34th minute.

Iheanacho pulled one back for Nigeria right before the end of the first half from a free-kick.

Aguero fainted during half-time after falling ill in the dressing room.

He was taken to the hospital, hence he was unable to finish the game. The Manchester City striker was replaced with Datio Benedetto.

In the second half, Francis Uzoho and Idowu Brian replaced Daniel Akpeyi and Abdullahi Shehu for their first starts for the Super Eagles, while Kenneth Omeruo came on for Leon Balogun and Tyronne Ebuehi for Ola Aina.

Perhaps boosted by the substitutions, the Super Eagles were more attacking-minded and decisive in the second forty-five minutes.

Iwobi levelled for Nigeria in the 51st minute while Brian scored ten minutes into his debut.
