Igbonla students regain freedom after 64 days

The six students kidnapped from Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe, have been released.

Dolapo Badmos, public relations officer of the Nigeria police force, zone 2, confirmed this to TheCable but did not go into details.

However, a source said the students, who were abducted on May 25, secured their freedom in Ondo state.

The students are Agbaosi Judah, Jonah Peter, Philips Pelumi, Adebanjo George, Yusuf Faruq and Ramon Isiaka.

Their parents had earlier paid a ransom of N31 million but their captors refused to let them go.

The development comes less than one week after Acting President Yemi Osinbajo vowed that the children would return “as quickly as possible”.

Osinbajo gave the assurance at a social function he attended in Lagos.

“I don’t know how many times the governor has spoken to me about this and the inspector-general of police, the commissioner of police, the DSS and even the armed forces,” he had said.

“I am sure these children will return as quickly as possible; so, we look forward to their return.”
