Militants blow up Escravos pipeline in Delta

Niger Delta militants have blown a section of the Escravos gas trunkline behind salvation city, near Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West local government area of Delta state.

A source told TheCable that the incident happened in the early hours of Friday.

The source described the attack as a “big blow” to gas production in the country, revealing that the facility belongs to phase two of the Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline owned by the Nigerian Gas Company Limited (NGC).

Efforts made to confirm the development from Isa Ado, spokesman of operation Pulio Shield, the joint task force (JTF) in the Niger Delta, did not yield any result, as he refused to answer calls on his mobile telephone.

Escravos Lagos pipeline recorded an attack in February, resulting in the shortage of 3,132 megawatts (Mw) of electricity, and difficulties for operators of power generation plants.

It also affected the gas supply through the gas pipeline from Olero Creek.

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), a new militant group, has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks in the region.

The group said it was out to cripple the nation’s economy, vowing to defeat the military.

Last week, the avengers gave all oil companies operating in the region a two-week ultimatum to shut down.

  1. In 1960, the Anglo-American world power created an ungovernable country called Nigeria because of their insatiable greed for world natural resources.
The word “Escravos” means slavery in Portuguese. It took the NNPC and their Anglo-American “friends” Ten Billion Dollars($10,000,000) to construct natural gas conversion plant to convert our natural gas to liquid fuel. That is Escravos! Where’s it takes less($5,000,000) to build a power station that can give the whole of west Africa stable power supply. The other half can give enough refineries to saturated us with fuel. When the whole world is enjoying natural gas both for household use and generating much needed electric power, Escravos converts ours to liquid fuel which they sell back to us at exorbitant rate amid abundant crude oil. What slavery indeed!
May the Avengers succeed in their quest to liberate this land from international slavery!!!

    1. Point of correction. Nigeria wasn’t crested, by whoever you named, in 1960. The amalgamation of the northern and southern parts of what is now Nigeria was carried out in 1914. Check your books. You sound nationalist by the tone of your writeup, but you ended up by hailing the activities of elements who are permanently destrying their environment; whether or not they or you believe in the existence of NIGERIA. Surprising.
