Militants hit Chevron, NNPC pipelines

Fresh attacks have been recorded at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) crude trunkline supplying both the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

An oil flow station feeding the Chevron Tank farm in Warri south west local government area of Delta state, was also attacked, in addition to a gas line that feeds Lagos and Abuja electricity plants.

The NNPC pipeline had just been repaired following earlier attacks.

The incidents happened one day after suspected militants blew up Chevron Valve Platform, still in Warri south west.

N.B Lamu, spokesman of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta, confirmed the attack, but said he was yet to get full details.

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), which claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s attack, has said it also carried out the fresh attacks.

In a statement signed by Mudoch Agbinibo, NDA spokesman, the group said the refusal of Government Ekpemupolo, ex-militant leader, to apologise made it to strike.

NDA had earlier threatened to strike within Tompolo’s area – the ex-militant leader hails from Warri south west – if he does not apologise within three days.

“This is a clear warning to the all Niger Delta politicians, traditional rulers, community leaders, and the likes of Tompolo to mind their business and leave the liberation of the Niger delta people to the Avengers,” the statement read.

“To those who believe taking sides with federal government to fight Niger Deltans is the best option, Avengers are here on ground. Neither you nor the federal government can stop us. If you don’t stay clear and let us to carry out our activities we will bring the fight to your individual doorsteps.

“Our major goal is to cripple the Nigerian economy. We are using this medium to ask all Niger Deltans to take the war to all oil installations in their various communities because this is your war.”

The federal government has condemned the attacks, saying its doors are open to dialogue.
