NFF pick Siasia, Amuneke, Salisu in the interim

Although it has not yet been formally announced, TheCable can report the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appoint the trio of Samson Siasia, Salisu Yusuf and Emmanuel Amuneke as a “consortium of coaches” to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria in next month’s Africa Cup Nations qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

Alloy Agu will work as goal keeper trainer of the team, while Shaibu Amodu will oversee their work as the technical director.

The interim appointment of the coaches for the EGypt match alone was decided on Friday during a meeting of the NFF technical committee, which reviewed, among other things, the resignation of erstwhile coach, Sunday Oliseh. A substantive coach will be named for the team before Nigeria’s next encounter after Egypt.

Siasia previously coached the Super Eagles. Appointed on November 4, 2010, to succeed Lars Lagerbäck, the Swedish coach who abandoned the team after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he was sacked on October 28, 2011, after failing to qualify for the 2012 AFCON in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Amuneke has never coached the Eagles, but he led the Golden Eaglets to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup title last year, while Yusuf has been involved in the national-team set up for years as an assistant coach.
