Niger Senator, Dahiru Kuta, is dead

The senator representing Niger east constituency of Niger State at the National Assembly, Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta, has died, aged 65.

Publisher of Niger Times, Musa Lemu, told to TheCable that Kuta, who was suffering from diabetes, died on Thursday at a Lagos hospital.

“His nephew confirmed the death to me,” he said.

Until his death, Kuta was chairman of the senate committee on federal character and intergovernmental affairs.

Born April 16, 1949, he was elected senator of the Niger East constituency in 2007, on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He was previously chairman of the federal house of representatives committee on rules and business, and also served as secretary to the state government of Abdulkadir Kure.
