The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called off its nationwide strike.
The action which was taken on Wednesday failed to gain much traction.
Speaking with journalists on Sunday, Ayuba Wabba president of the NLC, said that the union decided to suspend the action after making wide consultations.
“After an exhaustive deliberation, NEC noted its protest action was informed by the twin issues of the unjustified and illegal hike in electricity tariff and increase in the pump price of petroleum products,”he said.

“In consideration of the above, NEC after due consultation with its constituents resolved to suspend with immediate effect, the action it commenced on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. The action is thus hereby suspended.”
According to Wabba, the union resolved to resume negotiations with the government on the new petrol price regime.
After unfruitful negotiations with the government over the increase in the price of petrol from N86.5 to N145, the NLC embarked on a nationwide industrial action and protests.

But the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and a faction of the NLC led by Joe Ajaero pulled out of the action.
The decision of the NLC is coming just two days after Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), appealed to the union to suspend the action.

Your comment..Nice to here that, But for me I thought NLC should use this opportunity to call the Mr. president attention to the workers minimum wage which is being initiated to him b4 the issue of fuel increase came on board but as they have call off the strike now it’s fantastic & sensible, and the President should sat on a round table with them for dialogue & resolve the matter. But what I don’t really know is that how much is government used to subsidies per litre, if subsidy should removed “which is good” I hope it should not more than the amount used to subsidies it per litre & I know that our President will not remove more than the amount used to subsidies it because he’s a trust worthy person. also this NLC are fighting for the whole Nigerian and not their own self interest on this issue, and I beg our great leader “Mr. President” to increase the workers minimum wage for them to live a happy life’ without such it will just be a disastrous. Thanks
I will have love to advise the NLC chairman to make a holistic consultations next time with his men before embarking on a strike. instead of jumping in to what he know little or nothing about.has the strike change anything?.
just bunch of cowards I’m sure they paid them off…
as for the NLC chairman God will reward him cos his actions in collaboration with that of his members is for the benefit of all in this country.. and I believe that by calling off the strike that the government should give in to their demand no matter how little ..
Nlc are jus shameless!! Wat exactly dd dey achieve ?? So this is dier way of taking their portion of d subsidy.. Am sure dey av shut dem up wit money.. all dis while dey cud av gone on strike dey turned deaf ear to wat was apinin in Nigeria… Nlc is supoz to be d voice of d people, its unfortunate dat iy is d voice of personal gain.
May God helps us all…..
