Osinbajo names Apata new solicitor general

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has approved the appointment of Dayo Apata as the new solicitor general of the federation, TheCable understands.

Apata was solicitor general and permanent secretary of the ministry of justice in Ekiti between 2010 and 2014 when Kayode Fayemi was governor.

He has served as legal adviser national planning ministry and also held several sensitive assignments.

Born on June 25 1961, Apata attended the Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo state, where he sat for and passed University of Cambridge higher school local examination in 1980. He proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he graduated amongst the first set of Law graduates in 1984. He was called to the Nigerian bar in 1985.

Apata served in the legal unit of Nigeria customs service as a prosecuting officer (NYSC).

He joined the federal civil service and was posted to the ministry of justice as legal officer.

He worked with the Eastern Zone of Nigeria customs service as an assistant legal adviser, prosecuting and defending customs cases in the eastern zone.
