Rangers break 32-year jinx, win NPFL title

Rangers of Enugu have broken the 32-year-old jinx of not winning a title.

The team defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 4-0 on Sunday, the last day of the season, to lift the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League title.

The atmosphere was carnival-like, even before the start of the game.

The players gave the fans something to cheer about as early as the third minute of the game.

A hat trick of goals by Chisom Egbuchulam and another goal by Osas Okoro gave them the three points needed.

He gave them the lead from the spot after an El-Kanemi Warriors player handled the ball in the box, before Okoro wrapped up the victory with few minutes to the end of the first half.

With the victory already secured in the first half, it was celebration all through, as the players decided to see the match through.

Egbuchulam scored his second before completing his hat trick with another penalty in the second half.

Some of the players that won the last trophy were present at the Cathedral as the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium is called and were honoured at half time of the game.

Some of the dignitaries present at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium were the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, Senator Obinna Ogba.
The victory nearly turned sour when Ifeanyi Egwim who came in as a substitute was injured with some of the players crying as he was taken straight to the hospital.
