Real Madrid win record-extending 15th UCL title

Real Madrid have won the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League (UCL).

The Spanish giants defeated Borrusia Dortmund 2-0 in the final on Saturday at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

Two second-half goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior were the difference on a historic night for the Carlo Ancelotti side.

The victory earned Real Madrid a record-extending 15th UCL title.

Dortmund looked the better side in the opening stages of the game, with Karim Adeyemi getting clear sites on goal, but the Nigerian-German failed to rein in his nerves and squandered the opportunities.

Niklas Fullkrug also hit the base of the post from another through ball into the box.

Madrid held on to survive a first half where they were abject, compared to a sharp Dortmund side.

Ancelotti’s team improved in the second half, creating the first real opportunity, but Carvajal saw his volley comfortably saved.

Real Madrid eventually went ahead through a corner routine, with Carvajal planting a glancing header into the far corner from Toni Kroos’ delivery in the 74th minute.

The Galacticos doubled their advantage nine mintes later, Vinicius Jr. pounced on an error in defence to slot the ball into the net to seal a ruthless victory.

The winger became the first-ever Brazilian to score in two UCL finals.

The triumph was Real Madrid’s fourth in Wembley Stadium, with the famed UCL winners triumphing in their ninth consecutive final.

The quartet of Carvajal, Kroos, Luka Modric, and Nacho has six UCL titles, and this latest win moves them to joint top with Paolo Gento, another Real Madrid legend.

On the night, Ancelotti also won his third title with the club and his seventh overall — two as manager of AC Milan and another two as a player.
