A house belonging to Sunday Adeyemo, youth leader better known as Sunday Igboho, in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, is on fire.

One of Igboho’s aides, who spoke with TheCable off the record, said the house got burnt in the early hours of Tuesday.

TheCable cannot immediately confirm the cause of the fire.

“Igboho has two houses in Soka. The old and the new one where he lives now. The old one got burnt overnight. We suspect foul play. It could be the work of people who don’t like what we are doing to liberate Yoruba from the oppression,” he said.

Olugbenga Fadeyi, spokesman of the Oyo state police command, could not be reached for comments as of the time of filing this report.

Igboho has been in the news since he issued a seven-day ultimatum to herders in Ibarapa local government area of Oyo state.

After the ultimatum elapsed, protesters had stormed a Fulani community in the area, setting houses on fire and vandalising some vehicles.

Some persons had blamed Igboho for the incident while Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police, ordered his arrest.

Igboho’s quit notice to herders had sparked tension in the country as stakeholders from the north and south engaged in a heated exchange.

But the tension was doused at a meeting between governors, security agencies and Miyetti Allah leaders.

A source later told TheCable that at the meeting, which held at Akure, Ondo state capital, south-west governors discussed the idea of Igboho heading Amotekun, a security outfit in the region.
