Supreme court affirms Uzodimma as Imo governor

The supreme court has affirmed the re-election of Hope Uzodimma as governor of Imo state.

In a judgment on Friday, a five-member panel of the court dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Samuel Anyanwu.

The panel unanimously agreed that the appeal was without merit and all the issues were resolved in favour of the governor.

The court also dismissed the appeal of the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Athan Achonu for lacking merit.

Uzodimma was declared winner of the election with a total of 540,308 votes, Anyanwu polled 71,503 votes while Achonu came third with 64,081 votes.

Anyanwu and Achonu had challenged the outcome of the November 11 poll before the Imo state governorship election petitions tribunal but lost out.

They further filed separate appeals at the lower court.
