Three suspected suicide bombers have died in an explosion which took place along Damboa Road, Maiduguri, Borno state.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the blast occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Three petrol tankers were said to have been destroyed in the explosion.
“Three 3 suspected suicide bombers died along Damboa Road, Maiduguri as a result of explosions in early hours of today,” NEMA wrote on Twitter.

“The fire has been brought under control and casualties have been evacuated,” said NEMA.
Victor Isuku, spokesman of the Borno police command, told NAN that policemen were working at the scene of the blasts.
Abubakar Kaumi, a witness, told reporters that the incident occurred around 3am.
“A woman suspected to be a suicide bomber walking alongside two girls came round the depot,” he said.

“They detonated their explosives near some petrol tankers parked there, and destroyed the three vehicles.
“Gladly, nobody was close by. So, only the three bombers died.”

An official of the National Emergency Management Agency( NEMA), Abdul Ibrahim, also confirmed the report.
“Three suspected suicide bombers detonated their explosives along Damboa road, Maiduguri, in the early hours of Friday, destroying three petrol tankers parked near the NNPC depot,” Ibrahim said.

He also said that the fire caused by the explosion had been brought under control while rescue efforts were ongoing.
