#BreakTheBias: Hamzat Lawal to hosts all-female panel at 35th birthday symposium

Hamzat Lawal, chief executive at Connected Development (CODE) is hosting an all-female panel at a symposium to mark his 35th birthday.

According to a statement by Seun Durojaiye, communications associate at CODE, Lawal believes that women are critical stakeholders in achieving development.

“In line with the theme of IWD 2022 – Break The Bias, Lawal, in an unprecedented initiative will host and facilitate a female-only panelist to mark his 35th birthday on March 12,” the statement read.

“Through his birthday symposium, the founder of Follow The Money is providing a platform for women leaders to have an intergenerational dialogue on leadership and taking active roles in closing the wide gender gap in Africa.”

Durojaiye said the speakers include “Amina Salihu (Senior Program Officer with the MacArthur Foundation Africa Office), Bella Anne Ndubuisi (Public affairs specialist in the diplomatic community, Nigeria), Dr Halimah Nuhu Sanda (Founder/CEO ROMZAIB Foundation), Rinsola Abiola (Derinsola Abiola Foundation), Maryam Laushi (Strategy Team member, Not Too Young To Run Movement) and Chioma Agwuegbo (Executive Director, TechHerNG), all of whom have blazed the trail in their various capacities”.

The symposium is to “drive important dialogue and beyond celebrating his life and work, Lawal seeks for the symposium to spark deeper conversations on why more women are needed at the table and that these conversations continue long after the event is over”.

The symposium is billed to hold in Abuja on Saturday, March 12, 2022.
