Spokesperson of the Department of State Security, Marilyn Ogar, has described the #BringBackOurGirls protest as a franchise.
According to her, from intelligence reports, the group is plotting to ‘simulate protests’ using international media agencies.
She said: “The group has become a franchise and security forces know exactly what they are up to. Security forces know they have bank accounts. We also know that they have brought security experts into the country to teach them how to beat security when they are demonstrating.
“We also know that they want to go to Asokoro extension to simulate some false movements where they have foreign media to say they are marching to Chibok. We also know that they have divided themselves into groups and zones with specific assignments. We are waiting to see whether all those will work.”

Ogar alleged that the group’s struggle was not genuine, referencing Funmilayo Ransome Kuti and her struggle for women as a counterpoise.
She also said the group was “paying courtesy calls to foreign banks soliciting funds”, adding that it was carrying out a smear campaign against some government officials.
She added: “If we want to fight for our rights, let us genuinely fight for our rights and make it transparent.”
