Naomi Nyadar, one of the leaders of the Bringbackourgirls protest that rattled Abuja on Wednesday  April 30, 2014, has been arrested by the Police.

She is currently being held at the Asokoro Police Station.

It is suspected that her arrest is in connection with the protest she led against the government’s handling of the abduction of the  Chibok girls. However, the police is alleging that she impersonated one of the mothers of the abducted girls.

Before her arrest, she had attended a meeting called by the First Lady, Patience Jonathan on Sunday. At the meeting, the first lady had warned women to desist from further protests and collaborate with her in finding the abducted girls.

The government does not give reasons for arresting people,” social commentator, Japheth Omojuwa, told TheCable when asked why Nyadar was arrested.

“However, her arrest may be connected with the Bringbackourgirls protest she led with Obiageli Ezekwesili.”

He added that Obiageli Ezekwesili, a former minister of education who was supposed to deliver a keynote address at the plenary session of  “Shape Africa” 2014, could be at the police station where her “colleague at protest”  was held, which explained her absence from the event.

Bemoaning police intransigence, Mrs Ezekwesili tweeted: “How more unjust for our Police to make it impossible for the legal representation we got for Mrs.Naomi Mutah Nyadar to secure her release!”

Nyadar has already spent more than 10 hours at the police station, and it appears she will be there for many more time.

At present, she has been taken to an unknown location. Her husband has not been informed about where she has been taken to.

  1. So not only can Nigerian govt. not #BringBackOurGirls but now they are victimizing protestants. What a shameless govt. Why not use their power on Boko Haram instead of harmless citizens.

  2. Just when you thought our awful rulers could go no lower… they are genius at plumbing new depths of awfulness/shamelessness

  3. So the unelected President want our women to stop protesting and collaborate with her. Madam is going too far again. Madam should please support as many protest as we can organize to bring our children back to their mothers
