Britain moves against another Scottish independence vote

David Mundell, British minister for Scotland, on Friday said that Scotland should not hold a second referendum on independence after the United Kingdom has voted to leave the European Union.

Speaking in London, Mundell said even though there could be another independence referendum, there should be no other independence referendum.

Mundell said he would continue to passionately make the case and also for the benefit Scotland gets from the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom voted 52-48 per cent to leave the EU, while Scotland voted 62-38 per cent to remain.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has just arrived Scotland, her first trip abroad since assuming office, to discuss on the future of both countries.

Speaking before her visit, May vowed to fully engage with the Scottish government on Brexit negotiations.

“This visit to Scotland is my first as prime minister and I’m coming here to show my commitment to preserving this special union that has endured for centuries,” she said.

“And I want to say something else to the people of Scotland too: the government I lead will always be on your side.

“Every decision we take, every policy we take forward, we will stand up for you and your family – not the rich, the mighty or the powerful.

“That’s because I believe in a union, not just between the nations of the United Kingdom, but between all of our citizens.”
