Ese Brume, the bronze medalist at Tokyo Olympics, will be eyeing a podium finish when she represents Nigeria at the 2022 World Athletics (WA) Indoor Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
The competition billed to start on March 18 is the 25-year-old athlete’s first (WA) indoor championship, and a podium finish will put Brume, who won bronze at the World Championships in 2019 and the Tokyo Olympics, on the illustrious list of Nigerians to win medals in all three global athletics championships — alongside only Gloria Alozie and Sunday Bada.
She is, however, expected to outperform Ivana Vuleta of Serbia, the world indoor defending champion, in the long jump, and Britain’s Ugen Lorraine.
Also representing Nigeria in the long jump event is Ruth Usoro, who will get a chance to shake off the disappointment of the Tokyo Olympics after she was disqualified alongside nine other Nigerian athletes.

In the track event, Nathaniel Samson, Timothy Emeoghene, Sikiru Adeyemi, and Ifeanyi Ojeli will be representing the country in the men’s 4x400m relay race.
The quartet will be seeking Nigeria’s first-ever relay medal at the championships.
The competition is scheduled to be a 3-day event from March 18 to 20.
