Olawale Ashimi, Nigerian singer, popularly known as Brymo, says his career ended in 2013.
The artiste, who was speaking in a tongue-in-cheek manner, tweeted this on Thursday while arguing with a fan on social media platform, Twitter.
The argument stemmed from a tweet where Brymo inferred that the black man’s travails are most often self inflicted.
“Black man suffers at home, black man suffers abroad. Black man suffers everywhere, black man likes to suffer”, he tweeted.

Many Nigerians on Twitter failed to agree with the former Chocolate City artiste and some accused him of “generalization” and stereotyping black people everywhere.
But Brymo was adamant in his belief, even when he was told that there’s difference between “liking to suffer” and “having no option than to suffer.”
He replied saying, “Well someone has to be responsible for the way black people are, it cannot be people of other races. It’s us”.

Brymo argued that for the black man to be free from suffering, “we need to cultivate honesty, diligence, contentment, and dream big”.
“We need our (black) music to stop being about swag and champagne and hoes,” he said.
The acclaimed songwriter further said the black man must blame himself for being black as that is “the first step to redemption”.
A Twitter user responded by taking a swipe at Brymo, saying “you have really been tweeting recklessly these days. Don’t tear your ‘almost done’ career with your miserable bare hands.”

“My career ended in 2013”, Brymo said in response.
“Being black is the most unique identity in the world, we just haven’t learned to wear it well… you need to stop reading, it’s killing your ability to think for yourself and face the reality around you”, the artiste told two other social media users.
The debate rages-on, on Twitter.
