Buhari cancels Lagos visit, delegates Osinbajo

President Muhammadu Buhari has called off his two-day visit to Lagos state.

According to Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, the president took the decision because of Ramadan.

Shehu explained that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will represent Buhari, saying the president had earlier rescheduled his visit to Edo state.

“The president is faced with scheduling difficulties and that is the reason for the postponement of the visit. He needs more time for Lagos and for Edo which had earlier been stepped down,” Shehu told state house correspondents.

“As a result of this, the visit has been scaled down and he is being represented by His Excellency the Vice-President, who is going to Lagos to commission a few projects, leaving the rest for  Mr. President.

“The President will undertake these visits after the Ramadan.”

Laolu Akande, spokesman of the vice-president, also spoke also on the visit.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will be represented in Lagos State tomorrow (Monday) on an official visit by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN,” he said in a statement.

“On behalf of the President, Prof. Osinbajo would commission a number of projects in the state as part of the visit.”

Buhari’s visit would have been the first official trip of a sitting president in 14 years, as no other president has visited the state since former President Olusegun Obasanjo came in November 2002.
