President Muhammadu Buhari has confirmed that Rotimi Amaechi, transport minister, is the director-general of campaign organisation for his re-election in 2019.
There have been reports on Amaechi’s appointment but the presidency neither confirmed or denied them.
But in a statement on Thursday, Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, said Amaechi who led the president’s campaign in 2015 had been reappointed.
The presidential aide disclosed that the director-general would announce other appointments into the campaign structure as approved by the president.

Amaechi was the governor of Rivers state from 2007 to 2015.
Formerly a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amaechi defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on November 27, 2013.
He had earlier announced the appointment of Festus Keyamo, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as spokesman of the campaign organisation.
