Muhammadu Buhari, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated President Goodluck Jonathan in the combined results for the two polling units inside the presidential villa, Abuja.
Buhari polled a total of 613 votes ahead of Jonathan, who had 595 votes.
However, each candidate had the upper hand at one polling unit apiece.
At Polling Unit (PU) Unit 021, Jonathan won, as he scored 293 votes to Buhari’s 265.

But at PU 022, Buhari won, scoring 348 votes to Jonathan’s 302, leaving Buhari witha total of 613 votes while Jonathan had 595.
Jonathan returned to the presidential villa after casting his vote in his hometown, Otuoke in Bayelsa state, so he was inside his official residence when the votes cast in the two units were being counted.
He was said to have returned at about 8.30pm, while counting of votes finished just before midnight.

The overall result of the election would be announced sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, as Attahiru Jega, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has reiterated the commission’s determination to announce the final result within 48 hours, notwithstanding the noticeable challenges.
