Buhari to deliver Anyiam-Osigwe 2015 lecture

President Muhammadu Buhari is the Keynote speaker for the 2015 edition of the annual lecture of the Osigwe Anyiam Osigwe Foundation.

Buhari is expected to speak on the topic: ‘The contradictions that inhibit anti-corruption initiatives in Nigeria and the perspective to their deconstruction,’ at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, on December 10.

Charles Anyiam-Osigwe, coordinator-general of the foundation, said the track record of Buhari influenced his choice as the speaker.

“The foundation acknowledges President Buhari’s distinguished credentials reflective in his efforts at eliminating corruption from the Nigerian socio-political space while functioning in various capacities in the governance process including his most valued initiatives in that regards as head of state of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 1983-1985,” he said in a statement.

“It is our conviction that his experiential knowledge in striving to prevent or totally eliminate corruption in Nigeria will offer significant academic benefit as a proceeding of the Emmanuel Onyechere Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe lecture series.

“Also, the platform of the lecture series will provide the enabling environment in which the citizenry across board and purposes will effectively interact with the president’s perspective on how corruption can be effectively curtailed within the agenda of his administration since a major plank of his campaign promises is the fight against corruption.

“To that effect, it is our conviction that his presentation at the session will immensely benefit the vision of the government in mobilising the populace in its anti-corruption quest.”

Mathew Kukah, bishop of the Catholic Diocese, Sokoto, will preside over the proceedings as the chairman.
