Buhari: Economy, security improved significantly during my administration

Muhammadu Buhari

Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria’s economy and security improved significantly on his watch.

Buhari was civilian president from 2015 to 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Wednesday, when he received members of the Katsina state correspondents’ chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) at his country home in Daura, Buhari said he inherited an economy in dire straits and a nation pummelled to submission by rampaging terrorists.

He said his administration inherited myriad other challenges from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that the economy had improved significantly by the time he was leaving Abuja in 2023.

“Nigeria’s security and economy improved significantly under my administration compared to what we met in 2015,” Daily Trust reports Buhari as saying.

The retired general said he is confident that the progress achieved under his leadership would continue to benefit the country, adding that “things will continue to improve in Nigeria”.

Buhari handed over the reins of the country’s leadership to Bola Tinubu of the APC on May 29, 2023.
