Buhari, former Ethiopian prime minister to speak at 27th Nigerian Economic Summit

President Muhammadu Buhari and Hailemariam Desalegn, former Ethiopian prime minister, will speak at the 27th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES#27) organised by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

The summit is themed ‘Securing our future: The fierce urgency of Now’.

NES#27 will hold from Monday, October 25 to 26 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, in collaboration with the federal ministry of finance, budget and national planning.

A statement issued by Yinka Iyinolakan, head, corporate communications of NESG, said Senate President Ahmed Lawan, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, budget and national planning, are also expected to speak at the summit.

Other dignitaries expected to speak at the event include Asue Ighodalo, NESG board chairman; Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti state governor, among others.

Iyinolakan said the summit will present a platform for stakeholders to “highlight Nigeria’s core socio-economic vulnerabilities and the associated risks to develop solutions that alleviate these vulnerabilities while exploring potential opportunities and priorities that will accelerate economic development.”

The summit will have five plenary sessions, nineteen interactive panels, debates, co-creation labs and roundtable discussions where stakeholders will conceptualise ways Nigeria can reverse poor economic trends, improve the human capital base of the economy, and mitigate security challenges.

“Discussions at the Summit will be structured across the following five sub-themes – Economic Transformation, Shared Prosperity, National Security, Political Economy, and Digital Transformation, as stakeholders, highlight the inherent Risks, Opportunities and Priorities to accelerate and sustain inclusive economic growth driven by sub-national economies,” the statement reads.

The 27th edition of the summit will combine virtual and in-person sessions.
