Buhari: From 1978 till date, I’ve never lost interest in oil sector

President Muhammadu Buhari says since 1978 when he was named the minister of petroleum till date, he has not lost interest in the oil sector.

Speaking in Warri, Delta state, on Thursday, the president said oil is God’s favour to Nigeria, and the Deltans are fortunate to have such great resource in their custody.

The President asked the people to reflect on what his government has achieved in the last three to four years.

“Since 1978 to 79, when I was the minister of petroleum, I never lost interest in petroleum industry. I am acutely aware of your influence, because God has placed you on top of this national asset,” Buhari said.

“I hope you will understand and appreciate the favour God has done to you in favour of the rest of Nigerians. I am trying to remind you to please reflect, very seriously on where we were in 2015 when we came.

“Where we are now, and what we were able to achieve with the resources available to us. I assure you that under this leadership, our interest is to serve Nigeria, to get Nigerians to live together and work for our nation.”

He said the fundamental objectives, which he campaigned on in 2015, are still relevant today; the country has to be secured, to be properly managed.
