Buhari: Mbaka ready to sacrifice his life for truth

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday showered encomium on Ejike Mbaka, spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu (AMEN), describing him as a man who speaks the truth to power.

Buhari said Mbaka is a remarkable example that religious leaders are the conscience and moral compass of the society.

In a statement issued on his behalf by Garba Shehu, his senior special assistant on media and publicity, Buhari celebrated the priest on the occasion of his 20th year of priesthood.

“Mbaka is a great priest who is not afraid to speak truth, even at the cost of his own life or being hated by those in power,” the statement read.

“He rose to the occasion to add his voice in support of good governance and identify with ordinary Nigerians in the face of despair and uncertain future.

“Though honest opinions attract hostility from leaders detached from reality, history would be kind to Father Mbaka for courageously speaking truth to power, even at great risks.”

Buhari, who said he was overwhelmed by Mbaka’s sincerity and patriotism, prayed to God to grant the priest more good health, long life and wisdom in the service of humanity.

Mbaka, who enjoys a huge followership in the south-eastern part of the country, expressed public support for Buhari ahead of  the 2015 election.

Though former president, Goodluck Jonathan secured majority of the votes from that part of the country, Mbaka’s criticisms of his government worked in favour of Buhari.
