President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting with the nation’s service chiefs.

Buhari is meeting with the security heads inside the presidential villa alongside some presidential aides.

Also present at the meeting alongside the heads of the army, the navy and the air force is Gabriel Olonisakin, chief of defence staff.

The meeting is taking place amid calls on the president to address Nigeria’s rising security challenges.

Persistent attacks across the country, particularly in the north, have resulted in deaths and displacement of many residents.

Owing to the killings, various groups have protested, calling on the president to sack the service chiefs and to take decisive steps to address the security challenges.

While the president has been silent on sacking the service chiefs, the presidency insists Nigeria has what it takes to secure its citizens and territory.

In February, Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), said Buhari would not sack the service chiefs because sacking them would not solve the challenges.
