Buhari orders ‘thorough investigation’ into murder of Imo traditional ruler

President Muhammadu Buhari has called for an investigation into the murder of Ignitus Asor, the traditional ruler of Obudi-Agwa community in Oguta LGA, Imo state.

On Monday, gunmen invaded the traditional ruler’s palace and opened fire on him and four other persons during a meeting.

Asor, two palace chiefs and two other members of the community were said to have died on the spot.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesperson, the president condemned the murder of the traditional ruler and others, while commiserating with the family of the bereaved.

“The president directs security agencies in the state to thoroughly investigate the dastardly act and ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law,” the statement reads.

“While commiserating with family, friends, the Obudi-Agwa community, as well as all those affected by the attacks, the president prays for the speedy recovery of those injured.

“President Buhari acknowledges the spirited efforts by the Imo state government at improving the security situation and encourages all Imo residents and citizens to robustly support the collective efforts of state actors and members of the local community to keep everyone safe.”

In recent times, Imo state has witnessed a spate of violent attacks on public facilities and security agents.

On November 7, soldiers were reportedly attacked by armed youths while on patrol at Izombe community, Oguta LGA.

In August, gunmen used a tipper to break the gate of a police station during an attack on a division in Oguta LGA.

Four police officers were killed during the attack on the station.
