Buhari reappoints Aliyu Aziz as NIMC DG

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reappointment of Aliyu Aziz as the director-general of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Abdulhamid Umar, general manager, NIMC operations and corporate communications, said the reappointment of Aziz was conveyed in a letter by Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF).

According to the statement, Aziz’s reappointment is pursuant to section 7 (3a) of the NIMC act 2007 which states that “the director-general shall hold office for a term of four years in the first instance and may be reappointed for a further term of four years and no more”.

“The President of the Federal Republic enjoins Engr. Aliyu Aziz to continue with the good work he is doing and take NIMC to the next level, in consonance with the Federal Government’s doctrine of integrity, transparency and accountability,’’ the statement read.

“This re-appointment is in pursuant to the NIMC ACT that provides  two terms tenure for the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission.”

Aziz’s reappointment takes effect from November 22.

He was first appointed by the president to head the commission in November 2015 following the expiration of the tenure of Chris Onyemenam, his predecessor.
