Buhari renews Akabueze’s tenure as DG, budget office

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a second tenure for Ben Akabueze to serve as the director-general of the Budget Office of the Federation.

The approval was announced on Sunday in a statement by Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, special adviser to the minister of finance, budget and national planning.

His current tenure is scheduled to expire on June 10, 2020.

He was first appointed as a special adviser on planning to the president on February 15, 2016, and was redeployed as DG of the budget office on June 10, 2020.

With the renewal, Akabueze’s term in office as DG would lapse on June 10, 2024.

“The budget office is currently undergoing several reforms under the leadership of Akabueze towards improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the budget office of the federation,” the statement read.

“Akabueze has a track record of sterling performance and it is due to his achievements that Mr President has approved Akabueze’s tenure to be renewed for another term in order to institutionalise the achievements for a sustainable improvement in the Budget Office of the Federation.”

Akabueze is a one-time chief executive officer of NAL Bank, now Sterling Bank.

He also served two terms as the Lagos state commissioner for budget and economic planning till 2015 when his tenure ended.
