After almost a month of delay leading to speculations of an ongoing spiritual cleansing, President Muhammadu Buhari has finally begun moving into the presidential villa and will spend his first night there on Sunday.
Ahead of his movement into the villa, his wife Aisha moved in on Thursday, while he went to his hometown, Daura, Katsina state, for the commencement of Ramadan fasting.
On Friday, there were movements around the first lady’s office where the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan used to operate from. And on Sunday, TheCable gathered that the president had not only been moving in, but would also be breaking his fast at the villa on Sunday night.
“He is moving in gradually,” a top presidency source with the knowledge of Buhari’s itinerary told TheCable on Sunday evening. “He will break his fast at the villa tonight.”

While denying reports of spiritual cleansing, Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, had said renovation works were largely responsible for the delay in the president’s movement into the villa.
His delayed movement to the villa had caused confusion, especially among journalists, and a state house correspondent told TheCable a week after Buhari’s inauguration that the development was “affecting a lot of things”.
“There is so much confusion at the moment. We don’t go to the villa anymore. The key staff like security, protocol and media have resumed at defence house,” he had said.

“We just resume and hope to cover one assignment or the other. It is not a conducive place to hang around because there are not enough seats. For example, nothing happened at the defence house today. We were told to go to his [Buhari’s] residence at Aso Drive for some assignments only for us to get there to discover that they had finished.
“We went to the mosque after we left the house and it has been very quiet since then. We heard this might continue for another two weeks or more.”
