Buhari to govs: Stop rogues from sabotaging oil installations

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked governors to stop local rogues from sabotaging oil installations across the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, quoted Buhari as saying destruction of oil pipelines have become a routine.

The president said his administration has done well in many areas but happenings in the south-south region remains worrisome.

“Every day I get situation reports about illegal refineries and the blowing up of pipelines. You must stop local rogues from sabotaging oil installations,” he said.

Buhari urged governors to collaborate with traditional rulers in the area of intelligence gathering.

He said the subregions are no longer safe as insecurity remains a challenge.

The president said his administration is working to address the problem of banditry and kidnapping, adding that the military will be charged to infiltrate their bases and eliminate them.

“The sub-region is no longer safe, more so with the collapse of the former Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi’s regime and the cross border movement of weapons and criminals,” he said.

“Governors must work with traditional rulers. Try and work with traditional rulers to boost intelligence gathering.

“Security is important and we must secure the whole country. We are thinking very hard on the issue of kidnapping. We will make it possible for the military to get to the bandits and kidnappers and eliminate them.”
