Buhari travels to UK for ‘much-deserved rest’

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari on Friday left for Britain on a private visit, his first trip outside the country since winning the March 28 presidential election, Garba Shehu, head of his media team, has said.

According to a statement issued by Garba in Abuja, Buhari would use the opportunity of the visit to “take a much-deserved rest” ahead of his inauguration on May 29.

“He is expected back in the country a few days before the inauguration, refreshed and ready to hit the ground running once he is sworn into office,” he said.

In February, the president-elect had visited the same country where he gave a passionate speech at Chatham House.

His trip to Britain at the time fuelled speculations about his state of health.

Ayo Fayose, Ekiti state governor, alleged that Buhari was sick; hence his trip to London to get treatment.

But the president-elect dismissed the allegation.

Buhari has always maintained that he is fit to rule the country, but his recent trip to Britain may spark another controversy over his health given the fact that he left only a few days to his inauguration as president of the country.

  1. “Buhari has always maintained that he is fit to rule the country, but his recent trip to Britain may spark another controversy over his health given the fact that he left only a few days to his inauguration as president of the country.”

Honestly I don’t know what this is.

    1. We want to see leadership by example. Are we telling the world that there is no place good enough to rest in Nigeria?

  2. These our leaders sef, they all same, acting in same manner. This is same way GEJ,OBJ and even Yaradua were travelling without telling us truth about their whereabouts, does it mean that there’s no place good enough to rest in Kastina and Nigeria as a whole. With the change mantra I thought GMB will be different, but they are all same same.
I don’t know the kind of rest GMB will get in 4 days before inauguration. Why must our leaders always lie to us. If GMB is sick there’s nothing wrong with that because he’s human all he need to do is to tell us the true picture so that we can join him in prayers. He should know that he is now a public figure (president elect) and should stop leaving a life surrounded in secrecy.
Telling us lie is ridiculing us before int’l community because British intelligence knows the reason why he is there. Is this the change we are asking for? May God help Nigeria. Hope we have not entered on chance!!!

  3. The man is free to travel and come back fresh for the task ahead. He has been receiving visitors since he won the election and not to talk of lobbyists.Staying here will not allow him have the much deserved rest without distractions

  4. Pls God, do not forsake Nigeria. Pls keep our president-elect save and sound. We cant afford anything negative at this critical moment. It is well with our dear nation. Shalom

  5. The best way to rest for GMB is to travel, because politician lobbying for appointment will not allow him to rest here! So nothing new about his journey even if its for health reasons he surely deserve it my people after al he is human with a big task ahead of him.
