Muhammadu Buhari, a former head of state, has welcomed Aminu Tambuwal, speaker of the house of representative, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tambuwal announced his defection from the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the APC, on Tuesday.
He had earlier registered as a member of the APC on October 20, 2014.
Speaking at the special convention of the party in Abuja on Wednesday, Buhari remarked that Tambuwal had broken history and was a man of courage to have left the ruling party for the opposition.

“I would like to thank Tambuwal for breaking history,” Buhari said.
“We were overwhelmed, and it is a worthy history, I have to admit. He took a remarkable risk.”
The APC presidential aspirant restated the commitment of the party to providing efficient leadership for the country, saying: “Our intention is to secure this country and efficiently manage it.”
