Buratai launches operation to tackle insurgency, kidnapping in Kano

Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff, has launched Operation Harbin Kunama II in Kano to tackle cattle rustling, kidnapping and insurgency. 

Speaking with journalists on Saturday, Buratai explained that the operation is part of the efforts to reduce crime.

He said he had discussed with Umar Ganduje, governor of Kano, on the modalities to curb criminal activities in the dreaded Falgore forest and other parts of the state where hoodlums have taken control.

The chief of army staff also commended Ganduje for his support of security agencies by means of donating operational vehicles to them.

“The measures adopted is to fast-track the issue of insurgency that have spread across the country in which the Nigerian army has been tackling,” Buratai said.

“All necessary machinery to achieve the overall success of the operation is being deployed and operations are conducted in various states of the federation.”

Oh his part, Ganduje reiterated that his administration would keep partnering with the federal government in the area of security.

The governor said that since the Muhammadu Buhari administration came on board, the issue of terrorism is gradually becoming history.
