Tukur Buratai, a major general and new army chief, met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa on Thursday after taking over command from Kenneth Minimah, a lieutenant general.
Buratai told the media he would be spending the eid break with the troops in Yobe state where operations are going on against Boko Haram.
His meeting with Buhari was behind closed doors but he is believed to have briefed the president on his plans.
He was appointed on Tuesday.

He told journalists: “I don’t have anything to say for now. I am just a few hours on the job. With time we will be talking some more. I am going to Damaturu to spend the Sallah with our troops there.”
