The police have enforced the restriction of vehicular movement in Ondo and Katsina states.

A by-election is taking place to fill a vacant seat in the house of representatives for Akoko north-east and Akoko north-west federal constituency in Ondo.

A rerun poll is being held in Kankara and Faskari LGAs of Katsina.

In Ondo, NAN reports that security personnel, comprising the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Nigeria Custodial Service (NCS) were seen at strategic locations in the town and at polling centres.

The news agency said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arrived early at most of the polling centres in Ikare, and voters were seen checking for their names on the voters register pasted on walls and boards.

In Katsina, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, spokesperson of the police, said the restriction of vehicular movement would be between 8 am to 5 pm.

“Residents should comply in the interest of promoting a peaceful and transparent electoral exercise,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.

“Adequate security arrangements have been made to enforce the restrictions and to ensure the safety of all voters and election officials.”

He said residents should call the police in the event of an emergency.

The polls are being held in four polling units in Dauduwa registration area of Faskari, while 16 are in Garagi ward of Kankara LGA.
