Cable Foundation is hiring

Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation (CNJF), also known as the Cable Foundation, is seeking fact-check journalists and local language reporters for TheCable Check, its new project.

The foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that uses the tools of journalism to advance accountability, transparency and good governance.

In line with its vision, TheCable Check is a fact-check service that will provide a reliable myth-busting go-to website for publicly made claims — especially in the run-up to 2023 general election in Nigeria.

The project is in partnership with TheCable, Nigeria’s independent online newspaper, and it is supported by the MacArthur Foundation. Women and people living with disability are strongly encouraged to apply, in accordance with its gender equality and social inclusion policy.

Position: Fact-Check Editor

Responsibilities: The Fact-Check Editor will oversee TheCable Check website, manage the team, generate and commission stories, and be consistently innovative.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should have significant experience in fact-checking with strong digital investigation skills such as verifying user generated content (UGC). The candidate should have deft understanding of the leading social media platforms and be proficient in modern, digital journalism.

Position: Local Language Reporters (4)

Responsibilities: Candidates will both report and translate the project’s fact-check stories into one of these local languages: Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and Pidgin English.

Requirements: The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding and ability to read, write and broadcast in one of the aforementioned languages, have journalism experience in fact-checking with strong analytical, creative and innovative skills, be able to work in a team with promptness in meeting deadlines, and should be proficient in modern, digital journalism.
