CableCheck, the fact-checking arm of the Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation (CNJF), has been verified as a signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).
CableCheck, initially known as TheCable Newspaper’s fact-checking arm, was verified by IFCN in March 2025, two years after the global network paused accepting applications from fact-checking agencies.
This landmark achievement underscores CableCheck’s commitment to transparency, accuracy, and ethical journalism amid the rising tide of misinformation in the digital age.
“We welcome TheCable in joining IFCN‘s Code of Principles as a Verified Signatory. It’s great to have you on board, and we look forward to deepening our collaboration for the advancement of fact-checking,” IFCN said in its confirmation to CableCheck.

The verification, a rigorous process that assesses journalistic standards and adherence to a strict code of principles, recognises CableCheck’s robust fact-checking practices and its mission to provide Nigerians with reliable, evidence-based reporting.
As part of the IFCN, CableCheck joins a global community of trusted fact-checkers dedicated to combating disinformation and promoting accountability in media worldwide.
Simon Kolawole, executive director at Cable Foundation, added that this is a testament to the great work of the journalists at TheCable and CableCheck.

“This is a testament to our relentless efforts to uphold the highest standards of journalism and provide the Nigerian public with accurate and impartial information. In an era where disinformation is loved more than the facts, our role has never been more critical,” Kolawole said.
“We look forward to collaborations with like-minded institutions fighting the growing challenge of misinformation and disinformation globally.”
Mayowa Tijani, director of projects at The Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation (CNJF), said the verification is an endorsement of TheCable’s decade-long history of fact-checking.
“TheCable and Cable Foundation have been dedicated to fact-checking for nearly a decade. In 2018, we conducted the first live fact-check of a presidential debate in Nigeria’s history, paving the way for more events like this,” he said.

“This verification is an endorsement of these years of hard work the team has put in ensuring information integrity in Nigeria.”
With this new status, CableCheck will continue to enhance its investigative reporting, expand its collaborative efforts with other fact-checking organizations, and further invest in advanced tools and training for its team.
Ebunoluwa Olafusi, head of the fact-check at the organisation, said “this verification is a proof of the rigorous work we do at CableCheck”.
“We are committed to amplifying facts, truth and helping readers to make informed decisions about happenings within their communities,” she added.
