Imade Osarenkhoe scored the only goal as Bendel Insurance defeated ASO Chief in the first leg of their CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round tie.
The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) club overcame the Algerians 1-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin on Saturday.
Osarenkhoe’s first-half strike gave the team dubbed ‘Benin Arsenal’ a slim advantage going into the second leg.
Bendel Insurance, enjoying continental action for the first time in 18 years, took some time to settle into the encounter but ramped up the pressure and deservedly took the lead three minutes before the interval.

A floated free-kick bounced towards the back post where Osarenkhoe was waiting to bundle in despite losing his balance. Insurance players went into wild celebration while ASO Chief’s players complained to the referee to no avail.
Insurance could not find the next gear in the second period but did enough to see out the game to preserve their slim victory.
The second leg will take place at the Stade Mabrouki Salem in Algiers on August 26.
