The United States senate will begin the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump over alleged incitement leading to the Capitol violence.
TheCable had reported how thousands of demonstrators loyal to Trump invaded the Capitol Hill on January 6 while the certification of Joe Biden was ongoing.
Four protesters and a police officer died in the violence.
Shortly after the incident, the US house of representatives commenced impeachment proceeding against Trump and on January 13, he was impeached for a record second time, paving the way for a senate trial.

According to some Democrats in the US senate, the impeachment trial of the erstwhile president will begin on Tuesday.
Chuck Schumer, senate majority leader, said the house would deliver the impeachment article on Monday.
“The Senate will conduct a trial of the impeachment of Donald Trump. It will be a full trial. It will be a fair trial,” Schumer said.

If convicted, Trump could be barred from contesting in future election.
There are reports that Trump is interested in running for the presidency in 2024. Although the immediate past US president has not stated this publicly, he hinted at this in his last chat with reporters at White House.
Shortly before boarding the aircraft which ferried him out of the seat of power in America, Trump said goodbye to journalists, saying: “I hope it won’t be a long goodbye.”
