Christopher Musa, chief of defence staff, says Nigeria would not permit any nation to use its borders as a launch pad for attacks.
The army chief spoke on Thursday while addressing troops of ‘Operation Fansan Yamma’ at a Christmas luncheon in Sokoto.
There have been claims in the social media that the French government is planning to establish a military base in Nigeria.
The claim has been denied by the Nigerian government.

Recently, Abdourahamane Tchiani, military leader of Niger Republic, alleged that France made a “substantial payment to President Bola Tinubu” to establish a military base in Nigeria.
Tchiani added that France is negotiating with terrorists in Nigeria to destabilise his country.
The federal government has denied the allegations.

In a response to recent developments, Musa said as a sovereign, Nigeria is capable of handling its affairs without external help.
The CDS assured neighbouring countries that Nigeria would not harbour criminal elements to attack them.
“We have the capacity and capability to handle our security challenges,” Musa was quoted by NAN.
“What we can do is collaborate with other nations through training — sending our personnel abroad for training and welcoming theirs as well.

“Any criminal element using Nigerian soil to attack our neighbors is an enemy of Nigeria, and we will take decisive action.
“We are one with our neighbors and will ensure that such threats are neutralised.”
The army chief advised Nigerians to be wary of individuals and groups who exploit religious and tribal sentiments for selfish gains.
“Many come pretending to be allies but later reveal their true motives,” he added.

“This was the case with the Lakurawa, who initially seemed friendly but are now a significant threat.
“Any community harboring these criminals must either drive them out or prepare to face the consequences of our operations.
