Celebrating IHRD 2023: Shaping the new future

BY DAVIES SEKINAT OMOSHALEWA

Employees are the greatest assets at the back end of those employees and the behind-the-scene champions are the human resource practitioners.

A brief history of HR takes us to George Elton Mayo to the modern day father of HR- Dave Ulrich as both were pioneers of the HR Profession who propagated that every employee plays their part in the organization and as such they should be recognized and celebrated.

Human Resource has always being in existence and is as old as a man. HR ensures that everyone and everything goes according to plan (from planning to implementation) and takes the fall for unforeseen outcomes and circumstances. No mistakes and zero margins for error.

HRD is celebrated every 20th May and the theme for this year is premised on four main vital parts out of the HR value chain which are – a. Trust culture (b) Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, (c) well-being and work life integration and (d)Sustainable work environment

This year’s theme has been carefully chosen in line with the current Global Goal 8 to further entrench the values that each employee brings to the organization through the never relenting effort of the HR. This encourages and propagates the HR profession as it aids to deepen the understanding of employers of labour to always create and have a work-life environment that transcends beyond bias, subjectivity, favouritism and all other actions that can be detrimental to the strategic vision and values of any organization.

The European Association for people, Management (EAPM) , the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management(CIPM), The Chartered Institute of Personnel Development(CIPD) and Society for Human Resource Management(SHRM) is just a few of the leading platforms that have continually promoted the HR profession on the global stage.

There is need to allay the fear of C-Suite Executives and headhunters that HR is not just an employee but a strategic partner in the business of the organization whether in the private or public sector and across all human endeavor. The HR Profession needs to be positively positioned to improve and serve as a win-win situation for both the employee and the employer.

Ensuring optimization of organizational objectives and career development and personal growth of every worker is the core responsibility of all HR practitioners.

Recruiters, owners of business should not view the HR Profession as the villain that serves the interest of a few but be seen as business associate that wants to see the organization grow and ensure each employee excels as well.

We celebrate this year with the hope that there would be a positive shift towards more conscious and deliberate actions by ensuring employers of labour create, cutting – edge employee experience that would keep every worker dedicated to achieve their personal objectives and that of the organization.
